Steve Elisson aka Flying Lotus, also referred as Flylo is the mind behind some gems of the bumper music on the Adult Swim Network. He is also the great-nephew of Alice Coltrane (wife of John Coltrane), whose influence may be a bit hidden but definitely distinguishable. Now about the record itself: It's pointless to review various tracks on their own because it's clearly an organic whole. Repetitive oldschool drum beats are flipped over jazzy bass synths and gnarly crunching arcade sounds that float around the head like worms searching for useless braincells to make room for space to get lost in. Everything is kept in Madlib'y nod-your-head-or-die manner. Anyone who's searching for "fast-food beats" is wrong here, those are clearly growers to get used to. For me it was like listening to Aphex Twin for the first time - I had that "WTF ?-moment" where it's irritating yet intruiging. If You give it some time it'll feel like holding a Snes Controller for the first time again, but this time around with a big fat ass blunt clamped between the lips and a whole bunch of sweeties next to You ^^
